BIOGRAPHY:
Professor Zhongxue Li holds a Bachelor of Engineering Sciences degree (1982) from Fuxin Mining Institute (Currently Liaoning Technical University) in China, a Master of Sciences degree (1984) from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in USA, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (1987) from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in USA. He has been working with University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) as postdoctoral research fellow and lecturer (1987), associate professor (1990), and professor (1994).
His teaching and research interests focus on the interdisciplinary areas of mine systems modeling and visualization, mine safety and risk management, and mineral exploitation for sustainability. He has published nine academic books and more than 250 peer reviewed technical papers, and recognized with the Special Allowance Award by the State Council, National Master of Engineering Education Citation for Distinction by the Ministry of Education, awards for Science and Technology Achievement by the State Administration of Work Safety, and awards for Teaching Excellence by the Municipal Government of Beijing, China. His academic leadership is also demonstrated through his twelve-year long services to the University as Associate Director and Director of USTB Graduate Programs Office, Associate Dean of USTB Graduate School, and Director of USTB Strategic Direction and Planning Office.
Dr. Li is member of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration, USA since 1984 and member of the international Society of Mining Professors (SOMP) since 2012 as well as SOMP President (2017-2018), and serves on Board of Standing Directors for the China Occupational Safety and Health Association and Board of Directors for the Chinese Society for Sustainable Development
