Education and Employment Record:  

Professor Gao, a native of Rushan, Shandong Province, is the Teacher of Excellence in Beijing, Prize laureate of the 8th China Youth Science and Technology, New Century Millions of Talent Projects National Candidate in 2006. He graduated from Beijing Iron and Steel Institute (now University of Science and Technology Beijing) with a bachelor's degree in mining engineering in 1982. In 1985, he obtained a master's degree in mining engineering from Beijing Iron and Steel Institute (now University of Science and Technology Beijing) and worked in the school, and was promoted to be a professor in 1998.

Since 1982, Professor Gao has been engaged in the research on the flow characteristics of granular materials, the stability of geotechnical engineering, and the prevention and treatment of engineering disasters. More than 40 national, provincial and university cooperation projects were undertaken and finished, including an 863 goal oriented project "Research and application of geological hazard identification, dynamic monitoring and early warning in wide road". One second class prize of the national science and technology progress, four first class prizes, two second class prizes and two third class prizes of the provincial science and technology progress, and one bureau-level grand prize were awarded. One bureau-level patent and more than 60 academic papers were published, including more than 30 papers indexed by SCI and EI. And more than 60 doctor and master graduate students were guided and trained. Besides, one college teaching textbook designated by education committee of geology and mineral disciplines of ministry of education was published.
