Dr. Gao graduated from East China Institute of Water Conservancy (now renamed Hohai University) for Bachelor’s degree of Engineering Mechanics in February, 1982. After graduation, he worked as an engineer in China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) for 1.5 years. After that, he accepted his Master degree education of Geotechnical Engineering in China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research from September, 1983. And right after that, Dr. Gao accepted his PhD education of Geological Engineering from Institute of Geology And Geophysics (CAS) and graduated in March, 1989. In July that year, Dr. Gao worked as a post-doctoral fellow of Mining Engineering in University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) until December, 1991. Since then, Dr. Gao joined USTB and has been working there.

Dr. Gao now is a professor in the School of Civil & Resource Engineering, USTB. Dr. Gao is currently supervising a large research team of postdoctoral researchers and graduate students (PhD and Masters). Prof. Gao is still members of Chinese Association of Anchorage Engineering, International Association of Engineering Geology, and many other societies.
