School Introduction

The predecessor of the School of Civil and Resource Engineering of USTB is the Mining Department of Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Engineering. The Department of Mining is one of the earliest departments established in 1952. It is mainly composed of the Department of mining of Peiyang University, the Mining Department of North China Institute of Technology and the Mining Department of Tsinghua University. In 1985, the Department of Geology was established. In November 1994, the Department of Mining and the Department of Geology merged to form the School of Resource Engineering. In January 2002, the school was renamed as the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. In July 2016, it was renamed again as the School of Civil and Resource Engineering.

At present, there are 5 departments (the Department of Resource Engineering, Civil Engineering, Safety Science and Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Building Environment and Energy Engineering), 1 center(the Lab Center), 4 research institutes (the Institute of Space Remote Sensing and GIS Application, Mine Rescue Technology, Tailings Paste Disposal Technology, and Applied Mechanics), 1 key laboratory of Ministry of Education (Efficient Mining and Safety of Metal Mines) and 1 key laboratory of Beijing city (Beijing Key Laboratory of Urban Underground Space Engineering) established at the School of Civil and Resource Engineering.

The School has distinct features of disciplines, showing a harmonious development of multiple disciplines. At present, it has 2 national first-class key disciplines (Mining Engineering, Safety Science and Engineering), 2 national second-class key disciplines (Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering), 2 Beijing key disciplines (Engineering Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering), 2 national characteristic disciplines (Mining Engineering, Safety Engineering) and 2 Beijing characteristic disciplines (Mining Engineering, Safety Engineering). There are 4 first-class doctorates (Mining Engineering, Mechanics, Safety Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering), 11 second-class doctorates (Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Safety Science and engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, disaster prevention and mitigation engineering and protection engineering, bridge and tunnel engineering, municipal engineering, heating, gas supply, ventilation and Air conditioning engineering), 15 general master disciplines (Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Safety Science and Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Engineering and Protection Engineering, Bridge and Tunnel Engineering, Municipal Engineering, Heating, Gas Supply, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Engineering, Mineralogy, Mineral Survey and Exploration, Geological Engineering, Earth Exploration and Information Technology), 4 authorized fields of master of Engineering (Mining Engineering, Construction and Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Safety Science and Engineering), 4 post doctoral mobile stations (Mining Engineering, Mechanics, Safety Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering), 5 undergraduate majors (Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Safety Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Construction Equipment and Energy Application Engineering).

The School of Civil and Resource Engineering has a rigorous academic team, including 44 professors. The teachers of the school have undertaken more than 300 projects such as the National Science and Technology Support Plan, "973" Plan, "863" plan, and national Natural Science Foundation of China, and the annual scientific research fund has reached about 100 million yuan for eight consecutive years.

The school has established cooperative relations with more than 20 universities and research institutions in the United States, Japan, Australia, Britain, Sweden, Canada, Russia, Ukraine and other countries. There are more than 30 teachers in the school holding important academic positions in academic institutions at home and abroad, such as the director of the International Rock Mechanics Bureau, the professional committee member of the International Society of Rock Mechanics, the disciplinary evaluation group of the State Council Degree Committee, and the deputy director of the Standing Committee of the China Nonferrous Metals Society. Chairman of the Mining Society of the Chinese Metal Society, Chairman of the Education Committee of the Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, etc. At present, there are four national second-level societies attached to the school (Chinese Mining Society Professional Mining Committee, Chinese Rock Mechanics and Engineering Society Education Committee, Metallurgical Automation Society CAD and CAM Academic Committee, Chinese Silicate Society Process Petrology Professional Committee) , An international society (Asia Pacific International Fluid Enclosure Society).
