Introduction of Safety Science and Engineering
Established in 1952, the teaching and research section of mine ventilation and safety in the Department of Mining Engineering. In 1993, it was authorized to grant master's degree and Ph.D degree in the secondary discipline in 1998.
Since 2000s’,the secondary discipline of Safety Technology and Engineering was awarded as the key discipline of Beijing and the national key discipline, and approved to build the “Key Laboratory of High-Efficiency Mining and Safety of Metal Mines”, and began to recruit Undergraduate students in the major of “Safety Engineering”, and approved the Specialty Major of Beijing and the Ministry of Education (both are the first batch).
In 2009,established the Department of Safety Science and Engineering, and approved the “Safety Science and Engineering” first-level discipline doctoral ( The first batch) and postdoctoral program, and awarded B+ in the 4th discipline assessment of Ministry of Education of PRC.
Research Fields
Through 65 years of construction, course teaching and research by gradually to develop in the direction of greater safety in mines, the current focus mainly on the ChenDu theory and equipment control, dynamic disaster prevention and control, emergency service, fire prevention and control technology and material security, product security, etc., to form the basic research, technology development to the achievements of the multi-level teaching scientific research system.
Scientific Research
In the past 10 years, more than 400 research projects were accomplished. The discipline was awarded 3 National Prize for Natural Sciences(second class), 42 ministerial-level Prize for Natural Sciences. 41 patents were authorized,more than 2000 academic papers and 40 books were published.
Faculty
The Department of Safety Science and Engineering has 8 full-time professors, 6 associate professors and 8 lecturers, including 1 Excellent Youth Fund winner, 2 Beijing Teaching Masters, 5 National Production Safety Experts, and 1 Beijing Science and Technology Star. They all received PhD. degree.
Mine Risk Avoidance Technology Research Center
Since its establishment in 2011, the “Mine Risk Avoidance Technology Research Center” of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering has undertaken more than 80 vertical and horizontal projects including the National Science and Technology Support Plan, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Jiangsu Science and Technology Support Plan. The concept of mine mobile rescue cabins and refuge chambers has been put into practice in more than 50 domestic mines, providing a theoretical basis and engineering demonstration for the construction of the "six major systems" for safe and safe operations in domestic mines. The on-site technicians conducted more than 10,000 person-times of training and were widely reported by mainstream media such as Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, Phoenix Satellite TV, and China News Service. And in 2013 was identified as a "pilot unit for R & D platform of safety technology achievements."
Principle of establishing "center"
Under the guidance of the State Administration of work safety, relying on the safety discipline of our school, the center integrates the advantageous resources, aims at tackling the technical problems of mine risk avoidance, and builds an open scientific research base with self financing of our school.
The overall goal of the "center"
The overall goal is to take the mine risk avoidance technology and equipment as the research and development goal, to form a series of products by undertaking the national scientific and technological research and the scientific and technological research entrusted by local governments and enterprises, so as to make the achievements of several research directions reach the domestic and international leading levels; to establish and improve the experimental conditions to provide scientific research means and detection and inspection bases for the underground emergency risk avoidance system.
The development plan of the "center"
(1) Build a first-class laboratory. Integrate the existing experimental equipment and conditions of the school, establish the basic experimental conditions required by safety technology, build a number of characteristic laboratories around the construction of mine risk avoidance technology research center, so as to make the experimental conditions of safety technology reach the first-class level in China
(2) A number of achievements have been made. Taking the "12th Five Year Plan" scientific and technological support as an opportunity, actively undertake the technical research of the state, the Ministry and enterprises around the mine risk avoidance technology, provide technical support for the implementation of the "risk avoidance system", and develop relevant risk avoidance equipment.
(3) Participate in standard setting. At the same time of R & D of related products, actively participate in the formulation of national standards and industrial standards, and form a new design specification system for underground mines, water conservancy projects, small and medium-sized civil air defense projects and other risk avoidance spaces
(4) Establish training base. Establish the training base and talent education platform for mine emergency avoidance, undertake relevant teaching, and cultivate relevant talents in the fields of environmental control and life support technology, artificial environment science, interpersonal engineering, etc.
(5) Establish production base. The R & D and design of rescue capsule, refuge chamber and six major underground safety protection system related technical equipment are carried out, and the production base of products is established.
(6) Strengthen international exchanges. We will strengthen the open operation mechanism, strengthen academic exchanges and technical cooperation with counterpart universities, scientific research institutions and key laboratories at home and abroad, set up open funds, and encourage researchers at home and abroad to come to the center for scientific research, seek cooperative development, and improve the technical level and international popularity of the center
