Laboratory Positioning:

Aiming at the double bottleneck problems of shortage of land resources and deterioration of urban environment in the process of urban construction and development in Beijing and the whole country, with the goal of developing and using urban underground space, the focus is on the exploration of urban underground space geological conditions detection, engineering planning, design and construction, use environment and safety Basic theories and key technologies in the field of security and other fields, build a public platform for basic research, technology research and development, and talent training in the field of urban underground space engineering, assist the construction of the urban sponge function in Beijing, and provide technical guarantee for the realization of sustainable urban development.

Research Direction:

(1) Fine exploration of urban engineering geology and appraisal of suitability of underground space Aiming at the planning, design, development and utilization of urban underground space projects, it focuses on the investigation techniques and equipment, experimental analysis techniques and methods adapted to the urban working environment and engineering characteristics, Appraisal methods and standards for constructability, temporal and spatial variability and evolution of urban underground engineering geologic characteristics. Connect and interact with existing underground infrastructure. (5) Safety assurance and intelligent monitoring of urban underground space engineering In view of the particularity of urban underground space engineering, it focuses on the application of digitalization of the entire life cycle of urban underground space in planning, design, construction and operation and maintenance management. Using modern Internet of Things sensing technology combined with the Internet to study the comprehensive intelligent monitoring technology of underground space projects, providing services for disaster prevention and control such as flood control, fire protection, earthquake resistance, terrorist attacks, and public safety services such as emergency hedging and emergency rescue.

The urban underground space engineering laboratory research base mainly relies on the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Science and Technology of Beijing(USTB). The laboratory has a construction area of 2300m2. Around five main research directions, eight major experimental platforms and systems have been constructed.

There are 57 researchers in this laboratory, including 22 professors and 18 associate professors.Among all researchers, there are 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 chairman of the International Academic Institutions Committee, 1 member and convener of the Disciplinary Review Group of the State Council, 1 National Teaching Teacher, 1 National Outstanding Youth,3 people selected into the national “One Million Talents in the New Century” and three people selected into the “New Century Excellent Talents Support Plan” of the Ministry of Education
